There are a number of festivals and events that take place every year in and around St Ives. The St Ives Farmers Market is held from 9.30am until 2.00pm every Thursday at Backpackers, Lower Stennack. You will be spoilt for choice with produce from local growers offering seasonal vegetables, cakes and bread, fresh, smoked and cured fish, cheeses and organic meats.
The annual St Ives September Festival is always a very popular local event with a wide range of international artists including World Music, Reggae, Folk, Big Band, Jazz, Contemporary, Classical, Indian and Disco Funk. The festival is held during the 2nd and 3rd weeks of September.
The New Years Eve celebrations in St Ives have a national reputation for being one of the places to see in the New Year. The common theme is for people to turn up in fancy dress. The event has no organisation and is entirely people driven. There is more information and images here.
St Ives May Day the ancient customs of the town are celebrated with a weekend of concerts, guided walks and exhibitions culminating on May Day itself with parades, maypole dancing, the unique Pee Whip(!) and the choosing of the May King and Queen. There's also a bustling harbour market, live theatre and brass band and choral concerts.
