Lelant lays right on the mouth of the Hayle estuary. It is a small, pretty village about 4 miles from the central of St. Ives with a large sandy beach. Between the village and the beach is West Cornwall Golf Club, the oldest links golf course in Cornwall and St. Uny church which dates back to the 12th century. It is from the church that many walkers start the 13 mile walk to St. Michaels Mount (also known as the St. Michaels Way). This route follows the coast path towards St. Ives. Lelant was the birthplace of the internationally renowned author Rosamunde Pilcher who wrote many romantic novels for Mills and Boon and also published under the pseudonym Jane Fraser.
